Pencil Drawing of Louie

This is a pencil drawing of our wonderful Italian Greyhound Louie. I drew this for my wife Beth’s birthday. The final drawing is 8x 10 in. on Strathmore 400 Drawing Paper, and I used Faber-Castell 9000 series graphite pencils. I finished off some of the darkest areas with Staedtler Lumigraph Black carbon pencils. I drew this “sight-size” and put a B/W print next to the drawing and used a drafting divider to measure the outlines accurately. A weighted thread taped to the original and a corresponding vertical line gave me something to base my measurements on. Then it was just a matter of layers of shading.
