Sketching in the International District
Here’s an old video from 2014 of me and my friend Kyle Wendt sketching in Seattle’s International District. It was Chinese New Year and there were celebrations happening in the neighborhood. When we first arrived we came across people dressed as dragons doing dances in front of businesses that included lots of firecrackers. I heard the intent was to drive away bad energy for the coming new year. It was an interesting spectacle.
Then we got down to some watercolor sketching. For being February, it was a pretty nice day to sit outside with our sketchbooks.
After that we headed up to Capitol Hill and to the Joe Bar Cafe, which sadly didn’t make it out of the pandemic. We were joined by our friend Steven Vroom as we did a little more sketching.
It’s a pretty entertaining video and I hope you enjoy it.
